Quiz post and discussion
The Great Computer Game Quiz Sequel
Back with a vengeance, our friend Bright put together this sequel to the hugely successful Computer Game Quiz. 40 more games await you; of course you know them, you just know you do - but can you name them all? As usual, you can give and receive hints in the comments section. And as always, please do not post solutions. Have fun!
Both comments and pings are currently closed.
hey, finally! :) got like 10 of them so far, but keep fighting on. seems harder than the first one.
are you sure about number 12? maybe i can’t spell it correctly but it does not accept it. i need hint for 5 and 6. thanks, remy
this is a good one! thanks
Hello remy, 12 is sure, but we had a small bug at 25, eliminated by now.
good sequel, harder too! only 25% or so that i know at first sight compaired to 60% at the first one…
next time a game-music-quiz? :)
We’ll see, why not? My mobile has an Airwolf ringtone :)
Nice! … love those old games, time to dig up those old floppy disks again :)
gj!
a counter would be good to show how many are solved, but the quiz is great!
we have a problem with 9., everybody thinks of the same game but the quiz does not accept it.
and the 38. accepted strange strings as good answer, check it also.
A counter is a good idea! I’ve already implemented it, thanks!
About 9: I think it is what you think, just that we took the screenshot from the sequel… hope this helps.
About 38: Thanks, now it will only accept one (long) name for the game.
I get 35 correct…
flashy, its ********* but try add something more :D
looking : 5,7,8,12,33,39
oh, sorry, I already know that 33 :D
tepa, I’ve *ified your comment, no solutions please!

(next time I expect some Sinclair games too!) :-)
I have 23 so far.
Missing: 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 33, 40…
Okay, I know, I know… :-)
Are you sure about the spelling for Zak McCracken and the alien Mindbenders?
The game is there, but it didn’t recognize it…
4: based on a book, also a film. the writers last name is Herbert.
11: A HUGE hit! puzzle-solving game.
15: Soldiers whos purpose is dying is called this.
21: This RTS is about the struggle between a major global peacekeeping organisation and a group of terrorist. Features a famous Theme by Frank Klepacki.
40: This game could have been titled “Complete Destruction”, maybe?
can somebody tell me what 16. is ?
Borut, in case of doubts on spelling, try to search for alternatives on google. Sometimes our script is a bit liberal in accepting, sometimes not.
need only 7 & 12 - and i got no hint ! -pleeeeese help - need the first letter of the name , pleeeeeeese
@ Watt : :-)
7: such as Legend, but starts with M
12: stars with D (made by Manfred Trenz)
Missing: 5,2,30,40.
29 not 2, sorry
@ Màté : Thanks - i am sure that this will help
and as a “thanks” some starting letters for your missing ones
starting letters for :
5: I
2: X
30: B
40: T
most of them have 2 words in their name
oops:
so the starting letter for 29 is an “U” -
Im finaly made it, it was preety hard, especially 7 & 12
now im waiting for the next one ;-)
All the screen shots are taken from MobyGames. Funny it says “Link to us but please don’t steal.”, but it looks like they stole it in the first place.
Flipkin, sure, most of the images can be found by google - the point of the quiz is not to find screenshots to a game but to find the game to the screenshot.
Following your logic, MobyGames (and all the other oldschool game sites) “stole” from the game makers…
I came to your site accidentially, but found it very good to read. Thanks.
1. A famous C64 games. Omonimous to a Schwarzy movie
6. AD&D, just in sight…
16. A game where you can purchase muscle cars and challenge other people. It’s an EGA game that puts you on the street
can somebody tell me what is the 11.?
only this one I need…
After thinking nearly an hour about 14, I finaly realized that this is an English site and I had to translate the title from the original language German into English :)
A hint for all Germans here: It is still plural in English.
11. is a puzzle solving game from Ubisoft.
Great quiz but tough, got 9 correct so far.
I recognize a whole lot more but cant find the name in my head :)
Need hints for 5 and 39
got number 5 need 39
39 is nowadays freeware rpg.
Man, this quiz rocked!
Hehe , just the idea is so nicely sub cultured!
Just crazy people knows the answers!
Cool stuff man , keep it up!
I recognise nr. 39 but I cannot for my life come up with the correct answer. Although I´ve never played it I remember just that picture from a computer games mag in Sweden. It must have been around 1995. Crazy thing to remember, huh? =)
First name that came up was Legend of Kyrandia,, but that was wrong. So now Im lost. Some help plz?
Number 3 was a great game, it keeps on almost coming to me, arrrrgh!
Yggdrasil, if I remeber correctly Legend of Kyrandia was sequel (or prequel?) to that game in question.
I still miss 5,7,8,25,30. Any hints, and the current one’s for #7 didn’t help me a bit :-)
arggggh!
Funny quiz, but I only get 10 games =/
Where can I get the answers? =)
Ohh yes, now I have the music to 38 stuck in my head, thanks =D
gro, no, Kyrandia games have nothing to do with 39. It’s based on a famous book series and can even be seen as an independent part of that series, being a literary RPG.
Got 39 so far :D
Very nice selection… too bad #16 totally escapes me.
I always had VGA or better, so I’m totally out of clues about that one.
Ok, found #16 via google. Didn’t even know such a game existed. Maybe it was more famous in the USA?
@DeSangre
I’ve played this game long time ago also here in good old europe ;)
Could someone please give some hints for the following games?:
8,12,19,25,28,33
Yggdrasil, played that game _a lot_ in the “good old days”. (Sidenote: I totally connect that game with the record “Cheap Shots 2″, since we listened to that all the time when playing it. :)
Anyway, a little hint (maybe?) is that it’s released for free nowadays. (Was quite some time ago.)
And there is a sequel, as someone mentioned, but it’s (as someone also said) totally unrelated to the Kyrandia series.
plz guys tell me what is name of 37 puzzle
it was one of my favorite game ever ..
386sx2
Is there any where to go just to get the answers for those of us that can’t get any more right?
Need good hints for numbers:
5,8,18,19,22,23,25,26,27,33,36 and 39
Hi jazzbo! Sorry, currently we’re not planning to publish solutions, to let the newcomers have some nice frustrating fun. Well, at least not yet. :)
Make that:
5,8,18,19,22,25,26,33,36,39
Please, I need help for 7,22,25,26
Neeeeaaaarly done, just need to figure out 31,33,34 and 40… great quiz guys, took me several hours and much pondering to figure those other 36 out.
And it does warm my heart to see that no one (no one who mentioned it at least), couldn’t figure out 2, 17 and 32. God bless you, gamers.
Atzel,
I found out about 2, 17 and 32, but I am missing a few other answers.
some clues for you:
31? The first appearance of Ms. Lara Croft.
33? WWII shooter from Broderbund, US against the Japanese. (a synonym for “rage” is part of the title)
34? First and most famous Point & Click adventure from LucasFilm (1987 roundabout)
40? synonym for: complete nullification/destruction.
can you give some clues for 8,9,13,22,26,28,35 in exchange?
funny nobody seems to have problems with 24, not that I do ;)
Can anyone give me hints about 3,5,6,32,36,37,38
I need hints of 5,8,10,11,14,15,18,22,23,24,25,26,29,37,28,39 and 40.
I tried two of them but got nothing: :/
Well??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Well, patience, somebody might come and help, or might not, this is how it works.
Vinterskugge,
Based on your apparent attitude the news might surprise you, but other people do not visit this site with the exclusive aim of helping you out.
They will if you ask them to, but throwing question marks at them is not a surefire way of boosting your popularity. An alternative might be learning to wait a bit.
@herrieM and Vinterskugge
37: what does it look like? a “FIGHTING board game” (the royal game with king, queen, rook, bishop, knight and pawn)
38: famous martial arts game by System 3
5: two words, medieval game by Ubisoft from 1990, starts with I (already hints above)
have you got hints for any of the following? 8,9,13,22,26,28,35
9: The Sequel of the most famous arcade racer. Two words, from 1989.
13: LucasArt adventure. On the cover the main caracter was on a motorcycle
22: Game from Taskset A cryptic hint “mega Plumbing”
26: Game from Cosmi. Something to do with south america
28: Microstft’s RTS
35: I know this game as an DOS gam from Blizzard
Thanks for your three hints. If got them now
@herrieM
thanks for your hints, they really helped a lot. I never played 13, 22, 28 nor 35, so I did not recognize them. I thought about 9 before, but only added a 2 or II after the name (silly me).
But now some hints for you in return:
3: prequel to number 17, published by Delphine
6: famous roleplay series by SSI (e.g. Myth Drannor), no need to write the correct part, just the series name
32: judging by the picture this game belongs to a famous saga (currently in cinema), the title is the name of the spacecraft the hero is usually flying (something to do with the way it opens and the way it looks like): if you look at the spacecraft from behind it looks like a certain letter (only in attack mode).
36 famous Hack ‘n slay game for Megadrive/Genesis by Sega: hm, two words. first: more precious than SILVER, second: larger than a HATCHET
Now I am only missing number 8. Anyone got a clue for that one?
I also need a hint for 8
Also for 25,27 and 29.
That last one bugs me because it looks like a heretic/doom clone that i have played, but i can’t remember it good enough.
@HerrieM
25: famous rpg saga from ECA and Interplay (1985-89) featuring a “medieval singer”, the inofficial forth part is called Dragon Wars (by Interplay only, because they had an argument with ECA, so they did not call it … 4)
27: cute game about a black and a white guy battling each other for victory in the most devious ways, there used to be comic by Prohias in the old M.A.D. magazine with those two characters.
Published by Wicked Software, Developed by First Star Software in ca. 1987)
29: is not an FPS clone like Doom/Heretic or Hexen. It is a part of the probably longest lasting role play saga (started in the early Eighties, created by Richard Garriot/Lord British, and continued until now). The episode in question is one that goes “deep down”.
Thank you Karl and Herriem, I still have 12 missing.
Im sorry if I offended any of you, the thing is that in Enno’s quiz it passed 10 days and nobody answered.
:)
About 29. If the serie starts with a U i know which one it is, but i can’t get my answers exepted.
Do you have to type the serie and the episode number?
Vinterskugge,
No problem then. This is not and will not be “Enno’s quiz” and we will probably never make you wait for ten days for an answer. (Watch my careful built-in disclaimer with the word “probably” though :))
Have fun with all the quizzes!
@herrieM
you have got the right series name for 29, but a number is not necessary after that word. There are other parts of that series. I already said that this part goes “deep down” (people from Australia are sometimes said to be from “down …..”). The missing word is part of the second word nessecary to solve number 29.
@vinterskugge
which numbers do you still need hints for?
Need a hint for 24 pls
24: this is a game from martech. The making of this game started in 1966 ;) (think of a human)
@Rakeem
24: To solve no 24 you only need the name of the woman in the picture, she was “The Sun’s” most famous “page 3 girl” in the Eighties, had several chart hits like “Touch me”, “Nothing’s gonna stop me now”, “Naughty girls”.
Come on, you must have heard of her.
I still need 1, 5, 8, 10. 11. 14. 15. 18. 23, 39 and 40.
Vinterskugge,
11 - Fog
14 - First of series of games, a strategy game, where you have to settle a civilization…
39 - Treason at Someplace (not Mordor)
hope it helps….
Can anyone give hints to these:
12,16,19,33,38,40
@vinterskugge and Technospike
1: sounds like a Schwarzenegger Film, Phantom …
5: already gave a very explicit hint for this one, especially directed at you, vinterskugge (see above)
10: When Formula One Pilots come “in” to change tyres and get more fule, this procedure is called a … ….
12: famous Shoot-em up for the Amiga by Rainbow Arts, starts with a K, and nearly rhymes with the former Democrat candidate Michael DUKAKIS
15: famous action-strategy title by Sensible Software, known for its tagline “War has never been so much fun”
16: racing game from “California Dreams” back in 1989
18: other word for “animals”
19: vintage game from 1983, programmed by Doug Smith, published by Broderbund
23: famous olympic events game by Epyx, judging by the picture it obviously is not a summer event, so …?
33: World War II Shooter, US against Japanese, released by Broderbund in 1989 (title includes a synonym for “rage”)
38: famous martial arts game by system 3
40: synonym for “Complete nullification/destruction”, abreviated T A, by Cavedog Entertainment in 1997
still missing 8, 14 and 39..can anyone lend a hand?
Hi, could I get some help with numbers 8, 14 and 39? I know there were hints such as
8 - A very good space strategy
14 - First of series of games, a strategy game, where you have to settle a civilization
39 - Treason at Someplace (not Mordor)
Those didn’t help. I tried War in Middle Earth, War at Middle Earth for the last one and I tried the Civs for 14 and I was doing a whole bunch of space games for 8.
If you could help, that would be great.
Just wanna say I love it. These two quizzies are great for putting together a nostalgic best ever-list.
Oh, and number four is a fight for the precious spice.
Read two posts above… could someone help please?

Is there a problem with 3? I’m pretty sure that game is “not in” Of This “synonym for planet”, the mold breaking 1991 Delphine game, but it will not take that answer. Perhaps I am wrong?
Vance, sorry, your guess is not totally in another world, but you’re still wrong. I hope I helped :)

Hint: preeminence
Got all on both quizzes now, btw. :)
Got 36. Thanks to my Amiga almost. Great!!!
Another top quiz, much harder as has been said before. Got stuck for a long time on 5 and 8.
Thanks again :)
can anybody send me the answers? my e-mail: kleo87@op.pl
No Comment !
I’m still looking for number 8! Maybe someone can give a better clue, like publisher, or year? Please?
8. was programmed by Probe software
I´m finaly done with this quiz, it was very good. Much harder then the last one. 8 was the hardest one.
I still can’t get numbers 8, 26 and 30 :(
K, figured out the missing three (8, 26, 30). The test is finally done! :)
Gee, 39 was a real tough one, but finally got it as well. This one took a lot more research than the first one, as I “only” played 22 of those myself.
Damn, now I feel old. :P
I have problems with No. 8 an 30.
Anyone a few concrete hints?
There’s a typo many people might do in 39… you get many hits if you search for the typoed word in google. It’s about the e’s and a’s in the first word. I was very confused when it didn’t accept my answer.
after many months of searching, I have finally come across the answer to no. 8! Whoo-hoo! That’s all of them!
Now patiently waiting for the next game quiz…this time you guys should add some say, obscure NES games or something. Good job though!
Well I did both levels.
Thx, they brought back a lot of good memories. XD
I just can’t wait for level 3. ^^
Darn, 39/40 figured out.
Just can’t point my finger on #8.
When’s Arnie going to make a new movie? I could use a good high budget sci-fi flick with Arnold kickin butt.
Hint for 13: An energy drink has the same name as this game.
I enjoy playing game #13. I beat it like 20 times. :-)
Hints for 13: Motorcycles
Demolition Derbys
Sabotaging a meeting
Stopping a haywire plane
All these things can be found in the game that’s the answer to 13.
Hope this helps.
27 for the first try…
A bit late to discover these fine quizzes but that’s not the prob: Is the Quiz itself taken offline? Can’t find it?
Cheers!
Roger
Ah, stupid me… never mind the above comment…
*shamed*
Oh wow. I found these quizzes a year ago or so, and I just can’t leave them without finding out all the games.
I knew about 30/80 (total) games when I found them, and I’m slowly working my way up. Currently at 57. :D
Man, these two quizzes are addictive. XD
Where can I get the answers to this quiz?>
I really need it!!!
